Give It Away

"If you will think about what you ought to do for other people,

your character will take care of itself." - Woodrow Wilson

Many of us spend a great deal of time pondering our character and fretting over what others think of us. It is true that if we just do what we know we ought to do all the time, we do not have to waste one moment worrying about our character. It is impossible to have bad character if we spend a good portion of our time helping others. We would all like to be philanthropists (wouldn't it be nice to have so much money we could give 95 percent of it away?), but since most of us have only limited incomes, we need to be creative in giving of ourselves. Most of us do have a sizable amount of free time. If-instead of always spending our free time on entertainment-we could spend some of it at a soup kitchen or with a child or a lonely elderly person, this would do wonders for others and for our own character.

TODAY I WILL OFFER TO TAKE AN ELDERLY NEIGHBOR TO RUN ERRANDS.
