Reading of The Day!

The Eye of the Creator

"Originality is simply a pair of fresh eyes."

- Thomas Wentworth Higginson

When you visit an art art museum, do you find yourself marveling at some paintings but being baffled by others? I have thought some seemed so simple, anyone could have created them. "I could have done that with my eyes closed," I've found myself saying on more than one occasion. My daughter (who is an art professor) has helped me realize that are many different genres of art, and they don't all appeal to every visitor to a given museum. One visitor may go straight to the Impressionist gallery, while the next visitor makes a beeline for the modern wing. Some pieces depict specific scenes; others are more reactionary, and the inspiration for may not be obvious at first. Just because it's not what I'm used to seeing doesn't mean it doesn't have value.

TODAY I WILL ENDEAVOR TO HAVE FRESH EYES, AND I WILL NOT MAKE QUICK JUDGMENTS.
