"When a man points a finger at someone else, he should                                                         remember that four of his are pointing to himself."

                                                                             - Louis Nizer

Unless our actual job involves judging others, it is best to avoid this practice.  Maybe we have heard rumors about the marital problems of our neighbors.  Are we justified in treating them differently because of it?  Not unless we have firsthand knowledge of a situation, and it is likely inappropriate even then.  We would not consider it fair for someone to jump to conclusions about us for a circumstance we have little, if any, control over.  Of course we can't help but have things go through our minds about others: we just need to be careful about saying much or accusing anyone.  None of us is perfect, and thinking that we are superior to others is as questionable as nearly any other behavior.

IF I AM TEMPTED TO JUDGE SOMEONE TODAY, I WILL REMIND MYSELF OF SOME RECENT QUESTIONABLE BEHAVIOR OF MY OWN, AND I WILL BITE MY TONGUE.
